Meet Kelvin Darnell Martin The "Real 50 Cent"; A Notorious Gangster Who Was Gunned Down On October 1987

Kelvin Darnell Martin, was an African American.notorious gangster and criminal who was born in the Bronx, New York in July 24, 1964, where he grew up before moving to Brooklyn, also in New York. He is known as the "original 50 Cent.

Kelvin Martin grew up to be affiliated to a gang and was known to ferociously attack and Rob people mostly of their cash regardless of how much they were carrying at that time. He has been arrested countless times and later released. The name "50 Cent" according to some was giving to him due to the brutal force he applied when robbing people of their money and other valuables.

Another story revealed he got the nickname when he decided to enter a game of dice with just 50 cent stake and eventually won 500 dollars. Another school of thought believes he got the nickname "50 Cent" because of his physical small stature as he weighed only 120 pounds and was only 5 foot 2 inches tall.

Kelvin Darnell Martin reign of terror as a notorious gangster and armed robber came to an abrupt end when he went visiting his girlfriend and was gunned down on the stairway of his girlfriend's project building on October 20, 1987. He was immediately rushed to the Kings County Hospital where the doctors battled to save his life. Kelvin "50 Cent" Martin later gave up the ghost four days later on October 24, 1987.

In other to search for his killer, the New York Police Department (NYPD) swung into action. The investigation paid off when they arrested a gangster know as Julio “Wemo” Acevedo who was of Hispanic origin. He was later convicted of first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to about a decade in prison for killing Kelvin "50 Cent" Martin.

Julio “Wemo” Acevedo served his time in prison and was later released. He was later involved in a hit and run offence in 2013 which led to his arrest after killing a pregnant New York mother, her husband, and their baby boy who was delivered through C-section but later died.

Kelvin "50 Cent" Martin, died at the age of 23 which is really not a ripe age to leave the world. The famous American rapper "50 Cent" decided to adopt his name maybe to boost his status as a gangster rapper. This has been a practice in the black community or Hood to honour well known notorious gangsters who caused mayhem in the hood they grew up and died in, most especially through gunshots wounds. The American rapper who is also from New York, obviously decided to adopt the name to idolize Kelvin "50 Cent" Martin; a hood hero.

If you ask me I would say it's a believe that should be frowned upon in the black community for the sake of the younger ones aspiring to be great and also the unborn generation. Gangsters who terrorized the community by robbing and maiming people should never be idolized or respected, instead they should be condemned.
