Russia has vetoed a United Nations resolution that proposed a ban on the use of nuclear weapons in outer space after US intelligence reported that Moscow is trying to develop a nuclear device capable of destroying satellites. In February, President Joe Biden confirmed the US has intelligence that Russia is developing a nuclear anti-satellite capability. The weapon could destroy satellites by creating a massive energy wave when detonated. Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia on Wednesday, April 24, described the UN draft as a “dirty spectacle” and a “cynical ploy” prepared by the resolution’s backers, the US and Japan.   Before the vote, senior US officials claimed Russia might be hiding something should it veto the text. A priest, Reverend Canon Tony Mukoro, has been rescued by the operatives of the Police command in Edo State from the den of kidnappers. According to SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Police public Relation Officer, the incident happened on Tuesday March 19, 2024 in Benin, as one AK 47 rifle, one expended AK 47 shell, two pump action guns, 14 live cartridges, one cap and a bag were recovered from the suspects. The cleric was abducted by suspected hoodlums at Isihor community in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state on his way to his house in his car. Chidi the PPRO further stated that the Divisional Police Office in Ugbowo, Benin, got a distress call informing him that kidnappers accosted the victim in his Toyota Highlander car and whisked him away. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a lady whose name is Imaobong Sampson and her boyfriend, Beltus Ebong, in Mbierebe Obio village, Ibesikpo Asutan Area of the state for faking her kidnap.  Imaobong staged her kidnap with her boyfriend to extract money from her aunt that lives abroad. This was made know by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Odiko Macdon on Monday March 18, 2023. According to the PPRO, the suspects were arrested in their hideout by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad after a report of a kidnapping case in the area was received. He further stated that the complaints gotten by the command reveals that the conniving kidnappers were demanding the sum of 4 million naira from the family of Imaobong. The presidential candidate for labour party in last year's election, Mr. Peter Obi has proven himself to be a simple and humble man as he visited the Maraba-Nyanya International Market Central Mosque yesterday March 18, 2024, to break fast with the Muslim community. Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State showcased his humble nature, as he was seen eating and feeding a little boy from a disposable plate, sharing the same spoon in the process.  The devoted Muslim faithfuls were impressed as they watched him eat comfortably with the child. When Peter Obi finished eating, he took time to address the people that were present in the mosque despite the loud noise in the background. Gun wielding men have attacked and killed the founder of the Mount of Solution Redeemed Church (MSRC), Apostle Elisha Asuquo and the pastor in charge of the church, Aniekan Ibanga, in Ikot Ekang, a community in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state.  The general of overseer was gunned down by men suspected to be assassins who made their way into the church national headquarters at about 7:30pm at weekend during the parish meeting causing pandemonium in the process. It has become a norm for parents of rape And defilement victims to withdraw their cases and according to Delta State command spokesperson, SP. Bright Edafe, the command will no longer tolerate such again. Edafe made this known in a post shared on X as he recounted how a woman whose husband raped their seven (7) year old filed for the case to be withdrawn because she cannot raise their children alone considering the fact that punishment for rape is life imprisonment.
